Inhaled Zanamivir For Preventing Transmission Of Influenza In Families
337 families with 2-5 members, at least one adult ?18 years of age and one child 5-17 years of age
Index Case with clinical diagnosis of influenza
Within 36 hrs of index illness, all members of the family (index and contacts > age 5) received either zanamivir or placebo
- Treatment (index): 10mg twice a day for 5 days
- Prophylaxis (contacts): 10mg once a day for 10 days
Primary Endpoint: Proportion of randomized families in which > 1 contact developed symptomatic, laboratory-confirmed influenza A or B infection
